JEA worked with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Department of Military Affairs to develop this 77,000 square foot hangar facility on a 6-acre site at Bluegrass Station in Lexington, Kentucky. The project included design and construction of a rotary wing hangar and maintenance facility, development of the site including grading, access drivers, aircraft parking pads, hellipad ramps, concrete loading dock aprons, aircraft ramps and circulation, stormwater management and erosion control. The facility was a pre-engineered metal building system, including four hangar door openings, AFFFS sprinkler system, two-hour rated protection of all columns, fuel-resistive floor coatings, heavy duty concrete floor slab and aprons, fall protection system and large capacity, long-span overhead bridge cranes.
